Net users are getting the chance to fight back against spam websites. Internet portal Lycos has made a screensaver that endlessly requests data from sites that sell the goods and services mentioned in spam e-mail. Read more here. ... Comment

Let's just hope that no legitimate web hosting environments are inadvertently hosting spam sites... Imagine a large server farm and one site happens to be added to a banned list (maybe even accidentally)... I think it's irresponsible. Two wrongs do not make a right and draining someone else's bandwidth when it might have negative impact on legitimate uses is wrong... I wonder how much the first suit will sue Lycos for? ... Link

You're a fan of conspiracy theories - think about it! How much would it cost to bribe a low paid Lycos employee to close of a certain web farm via traffic overload on a certain day/time? Coinicidentally said farm hosts a competitor's website, or just happens to share the same ISP/local router. It doesn't take a genius to work out the possibilities. Lycos will be holding the largest 'legal' DDoS tool in the world! Well done... ... Link ... Comment |
