Mind back on the elections! It's close, 252 to 254 for Bush with three states left to gather all votes (about 1% of precints left in each)... New Mexico - 5 Iowa is less than .5% pro-bush at the moment so that could help although a projected vote for Kerry will not make him win... Ohio has had doubt cast on some of its voting methods so it might need to go to the courts (again)... ... Comment

In a nutshell
(for those that don't want to sift through loads of crap about the voting system) Each state in the US is allocated a certain number of electoral college votes roughly proportional to the population of the state. This means that each state has its own 'weighting' out of the total of 500 and something votes. The problem with the system is that the majority of the states (but not all) allocate all of their votes to the winner within the state. That means that if one candidate wins by a very slim margin in a state, they will likely get all that states votes. This system means that it is possible to win the presidential elections but not have the majority of the individual votes* (see 2000 elections). N.B. Some states do allocate their electoral college votes proportionally - Colorado tried to change their laws in order to do that this voting year but it was turned down. * This is known as the popular vote. ... Saw an episode of csi the other day where the agents did an obuction on an embrio. All of them were really upsett and there were violins playing in the background. The main actor then broke out in a melancolic moment of deep contemplation.
