hmmm I have the latest virus definitions from last week and my ZAP was updated about 2 weeks ago.. I was downloading via mIRC.... I don't want to have to reinstall my PC

Apple is just about as full of holes like M$ is, since its realese 2 weeks ago there have been 7 security holes!!!!!

hmm.. all OS's have bugs / holes in them that are discovered after release... it's hard to simulate a few million users in a test lab with different setup's.. anyway the apple users are usually less attacked then the users of the windows platform.. there are a lot of m$ haters out there... and apparently not as many apple haters unless ofcourse you look for them..

.. i would try.. is to go into the network settings right click on the LAN connection and choose repair...

that usually solves connectivity problems... or do a little /release /renew

if that fails try bmacd's solution..

otherwise you can do the old disable / enable the network connection...

I have a Prestige 600 USB ADSL modem.... It gets the ADSL line and the USB seems to be working fine since it flickers a little when I try to connect................ I don't get an IP since I can't connect to the DHCP.. Thanks guys for your help.

If that's the case then it's a hardware problem. The Zyxel Prestige 600 has an inbuilt DHCP server and standard NATing. If all of these were working fine before (which I'm assuming they were) then you definitely have an HW problem.

My suggestion, change USB port on the PC (I'm sure you've already tried this) in case it's the port.
Change USB cable (not so easy cos the fuckers can be difficult to find).
Take a large hammer (preferably a mallet) and 'examine' the modem. Then send it back to bluewin (or whoever) and claim that it just autocombusted.

Although I would still go through all the IPConfig, NBTStat and Network Settings advice because if anything is wrong there, then you won't be able to get to the local device meaning that you would not get an IP address...

I know the feeling. It may sound geeky but I hate the idea of being beaten by a machine, so I'm not going to roll over and take the easy option... Kind of sad I know, but that's what I do...

I hate re-installing my machine... and I don't understand why I should have to since the only problem I have is a connectivity issue otherwise the machine is working like a dream!

i know you would never work it out.. but i hijacked your RAM and replaced it with some cheap DDR's .-.. which means that you won't even be able to install an NT based OS on it =P

I do have two modems, so if reinstalling the current usb modem and it still doesn't work I'll install the shite PCI one
