Anna Lindh Murder Cont...

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - Police sought five people for
questioning Thursday in connection with the stabbing death of
Foreign Minister Anna Lindh as they awaited DNA tests that could
link a 35-year-old drifter to the slaying.
A lawyer for the man in custody said the unidentified man denied
any involvement in Lindh's stabbing during police questioning
Wednesday night. Gunnar Falk also criticized Swedish media for
"dissecting" the man without any proof that he was the killer.
"He may, as has been pointed out by some, be completely
innocent," Falk said.
Police also tried to dampen speculation that the man in custody
had been determined to be the murderer.
"Unfortunately the public seems to have got the idea that the
arrested man is the murderer, which has resulted in the flow of
tips almost stopping," police spokesman Lars Groenskog said. "I
can just say that we do not know that yet that he is the killer."
The suspect, who was taken in custody Tuesday night in a
Stockholm suburb, is under a 24-hour suicide watch at police
headquarters in Stockholm.
Police refused say what the man had told them during
questioning.
Prosecutors have until noon Friday to file a request to keep the
man in detention.
Swedish media, quoting police sources, said the suspect had
several prior convictions, including illegal possession of a knife
and theft.
Groenskog said police are keen to find out information from
people who may have seen the killer as he fled from the Nordiska
Kompaniet store Sept. 10 after stabbing Lindh, 46, in her stomach,
chest and arms.
Police are under intense scrutiny to find Lindh's killer,
particularly because of the unsolved murder of Prime Minister Olof
Palme, who was killed on his way home from a movie theater in 1986.
Tore Olsson, of Sweden's national forensic laboratory, said
police had collected DNA from a cap and knife left at the scene of
Lindh's slaying.
Like most politicians, including Palme, Lindh did not have
bodyguards.
Some Swedes wondered if the man in custody was really the
murderer. He had been found eating at a restaurant outside
Stockholm, even after police issued a warrant and national alert
for his arrest.
"It feels like it's too simple, that he was just sitting
there," said Angelica Bjerring, a 21-year-old nurse who helped
bandage Lindh after she was stabbed at the store.
Lindh had gone to shop for clothes to wear to a televised euro
debate that night, a friend who was with her told SVT 2 in an
interview to be aired Thursday night.
In the interview, "Five Days that Shook Sweden," the woman,
who was not identified, said Lindh was nervous about having to be
appear on television.
"Swedish television had very high demands on what Anna should
wear and there was nothing suitable in her wardrobe, so we had
agreed on meeting and going out to check if we could find
something," she said.
A memorial service for Lindh was scheduled for Friday, with
leaders from the United States, Britain, Finland, Norway and
Denmark attending.
Lindh's death shocked Swedes and cast a shadow over Sunday's
referendum to adopt the euro. Lindh was a prominent supporter of
adopting the single European currency, though authorities have said
the attack did not appear to be politically motivated.
Swedish voters rejected adoption of the euro.

i don't mean to trivialise ms. lindh's death, it was very nasty indeed and my sympathy, but i had a brainwave last night...
ok. get ready. as revealed in the last update,
"we're still waiting for a motive for the killing... but in the meantime I can tell you that he is a big fan of 80's music"...
has it occured to anyone else that vice city might have something to do with it? running around the city mowing down civilians with a chainsaw while the car radio blasts 'i just died in your arms tonight'?
maybe the music playing in the department store was on the vice city soundtrack and the dude automatically switched to massacre mode...

i know

normally i spit in the faces of those who blame youth agression on music and video games (it is always going to be the parents' fault) but now, the fact that it was a grown man (and also not an american) scares me quite a bit.

who knows?

maybe it was an american...but if it wasn't, this wouldn't be the first time that a non-american took to the streets in anger and went on a rampage...just ask the people of Zug...but you are right, this should be taken as warning sign...and perhaps Mr. Moore will have to do a follow up and examine why this american "trend" is spreading...or maybe it was just a psycho!
