That's been on US phones for absolutely ages. I remember seeing them using their mobiles with PTT last time I was over there, which was about 3 or 4 years ago...

You still have to be within range of each other because as far as I am aware, PTT is simply using the inherent 'walkie-talkie' function of the phone...

This just looks like they've updated the idea for modern networks...

... Link

That's the cool thing with Nokia's PTT solution it works over the gprs ( edge). Its bascily VoIP.... No range limitations

... Link

I assume that means that you'll get charged at carrier's GPRS rates. Exactly how big are voice packets anyway? From my experience with VOIP (we're currently implementing in the new wing of our building), the main issue is not quality, but quantity of packets. Basically you can expect fairly high error rates in VOIP packets, but as long as they come thick and fast, it sounds just like a normal analog phone call. Now with GPRS where we get charged effectively per packet, this could be a costly way to talk to your friends :o(

... Link

They are expecting to charge for 15-30 sec the same amount as for an SMS. Since its not simultaneous 2-way communication, the error handling is good.

Its going to be bloody expensive if you are talking for hours to your friend, but for those small msg " Where are you?" its great. On top of that it will cost the same to send a msg to Geneva or Christ Church ( as long as the networks support it)

bah

When passener of foot heave in sight, tootle the horn. Trumpet him melodiously at first, but if he still obstacles your passage then tootle him with vigour.

You've been at Engrish again haven't you???

damn... lets all just get walkie talkies instead... :-)
