Earthquake in France

Print | Send to a friend

Hundreds of thousands of people were shocked early Monday evening when the region was hit by an earthquake. The tremor shook the area shortly after 6:30 pm and measured 5.1 on the Richter Scale. Experts placed the epicenter near Besançon in the French part of the Jura mountain range. The tremor was felt as far away as Grenoble and South Western Germany. No injuries or damage were reported.
The strongest earthquake ever to hit Switzerland – which struck Bâle in 1356 – measured 6.5 on the Richter scale.
