Sounds like your MDB is fucked, first thing I'd try is reboot and rebuild the desktop (alt + apple just before the desktop appears if I remember correctly).

It's been a long time since I tried troubleshooting on a Mac and I haven't tried any of the new OSes, but that should still work...
