from today all the kids in new zealand can lead a calmer life since it's finally against the law to beat your children.

a lot of religious people were apparently against this change (don't know how religion plays a role, but thats what was said.)

They were going to pass a law like that in the US but it had no chance of passing. The law stated you can't beat your kids under 4 years old. WTF people are sick.
