Political Spin in Sweden

In light of the autumn election an elaborated political spin in Sweden has started to take shape. Currently it seems that the right-coalition is leading the race to monopolize the media coverage with their new “disagreement” regarding tax brakes. It seems the disagreement has been planned for months in advance in order to show the people that the coalition indeed can cooperate and come to accord. To retaliate, the Socialists want to hold a Lebanon-conference before the election to gain international acknowledgement and grab all of the media attention (all in the name of true humanitarianism!!). Another tactic often used is to come up with late leads that become dominant in the debate such as the “maxtaxan” (1998) and the question regarding language tests (2002). Often these questions are quite irrelevant but dictate the political discussion as they have a populistic connotation.
