Possibly old news: Unfortunately a little short on details but I quite like the idea of what you might store in "two football field size data centres with 4 storey cooling towers" that has to be "situated next to a dam in order to supply sufficient power". Anyone got any more technical details, specs, etc? I also love the comparison of Google to the Borg... ... Comment

Well. if you have a multimiljondollar company and nothing to you can either create a outer space station or maybe build the ultimate doomsdayweapon, or why not the worlds biggest super computer. Im getting serious Terminator wibes. I mean its cool that they are building there own worldwide web but, whats gonna happen when they have all the power in the world. It will turn on them and destroy us all. ... Link

i haven't seen anything bad coming out of the big G yet, except some google adspace stuff... but at the same time they are developing tools for humans; which can't be said about yahoo and microsoft (the competition) who cover their services with ads and promotions for thing like paris hiltons new single, totally unrelated to your intrests. has microsoft EVER created a free service that you have enjoyed? your super bloated 2mb hotmail account? yahoo was great until they started putting in ads in between every 10 messages in yahoo groups (fecking annoying), but had a decent freemail system with pop access until gmail surfaced. google has done great until now and i have been behind them on all projects they have ever initiated, i just hope they keep up their current standard. for microsoft to ever catch up with them (which i see as near to impossible) they needd to rewrite their philosophy from scratch. yes i prefer to see a small ad for mr scruff's new album when i check my mail rather than a fullpage flash ad with music for paris hilton's single when i check my yahoo account. ... I like them to. they seams different from microdoft. But its like breading a beagle dog. They look nice and cute, but one day you discover they have outgrown you in length and starts harassing you and your family.. ok maybe not the best comparison but anyway. No company is good forever. say one????? anyway. Gus can you invite a g-mail account to my father? ... Link

Hehe
Google = overgrown Beagle I think we might be onto something here... Bro - I wasn't saying that it was bad, just found it amusing (and also interesting). The geek in me wants a data centre that size to play with - imagine what you could do :o) ... Link

No company is good forever.
i could apply that to a company that i know VERY WELL. they still have a very strict ground philosophy, but they are bending every rule possible.. which is i guess the only way they can survive, even though i think they should just focus on what they are good at ;-) Google = overgrown but tres groomed Beagle ...
