Smoking Pot Is Not A Human Right

The federal tribunal dismissed the case of a young man who claimed that the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) guaranteed his right to smoke marijuana. The young Zurich resident was contesting a warning for having smoked pot. In his defense, the young man had made reference to article 8 of the ECHR that states: ’everyone has a right to respect of his private and family life’ (…). Swiss judges answered that the Convention protected fundamental human rights, not ’doing whatever you want.’ (Justin Veuthey)

Even though I think smoking pot should be legal, referencing the 'everyone has a right to respect of his private and family life' is not a great legal argument...

You still have to obey the laws of the country you are resident in. Can you imagine if your private life didn't have to adhere to any laws???
