the reason they gave them core duo 2ghz is that the processors will be old after the summer when the new technology comes on the market..

but this will affect everyone who's invested in dual core, so i guess apple where nice to the new buyers buy giving them duo core instead of solo (like it was planned) because this tech is aging too fast right now.. .

it's really weird.. i finally see a change in the cpu market that has almost come to a standstill since 2001 when the pentium 4 3.0ghz was introduced! speed hasn't really incread though (only about 600 mhz in 5 years!!) instead they have been focusing on lowering power consumption and running multicore..

and in a minute bastard will give you the lowdown at what has been happening at AMD!! ;-)

What ive heard the new mac suck. the thing is that there is no programs that support the new fanzy dualcore technic, The result is that they sofware emulate all programs witch makes for example all adobes program to work slower then the old g4s... Adobe wount release a new version until nex year and problebly no one else either... suckers.

yupp that's right, if you're using photoshop, and yes because it's emulated through rosetta it's a little slower than on a dual 2.7ghz G5 ;-)

but a lot of the apps have already been translated and run fast, and if you want to run photoshop cs2 it's not a problem, it runs fine in osx 10.4.4 on my dell laptop so it can't be all that bad on the dualcores!

as of today my laptop runs flawlessly with widescreen, qe/ci and opengl (gfx), audio, usb, firewire and it's FAST!! and it's a bloody cheap azz dell!! yes it's ugly! do i care? yes, but for the ca$h nope.. it's a macbook at a third of the price with better benchmarks then the new mini! it also works nicely with my new 24" screen...

- ilife 06 (iphoto, imovie, iweb etc.. )
- iwork 06
- final cut pro 5.1 (yay)
- vlc
- firefox
- tomato torrent ;-)

if you are a native fan of photoshop you can always install XP and run the PC version ;-P hehe

expect the universal binary for photoshop cs3? around christmastime..

cpu-intensive apps run already like fcp and ableton live (!!), the whole adobe stuff is still fast enuff, so what can i say, it's sooo smooth.. i love my new member in the geek-fam, and don't forget the sexy magnetic power plug!

well if you're sceptic, get a:
- mobo that supports overclocking (Asus P5LD2-V works),
- pentium D 805 (2x2.66,ghz oc to 2x4,1) this is faster than the +$1000 cpus on the market!!! and this one is $130 / 195CHF

- a good cooling system (think liquid/zalman cooling) and a
- 500W power unit,
- infineon DDR2 ram works.. (never cheap-out on LQ RAM!)

...and you could build a 4,1ghz monster that will kick more azz in an emulated rosetta version of photoshop than a G5 ever even dreamed of.. (at less of a price than the new mini and 3 times the power) that's for sure! a machine that you won't have to replace for a long time that runs OSX better and faster than any mac on the market..
