it ran on developer machines, so I am sure it would.. the x1600 should work just fine with it.

i guess we will find out within a few weeks.

3700.- for a laptop that is about the same speed as my current one is a little steep, but I might sell my dell to buy this sexy beast. but i am impressed..

Running Windows; Mac OS X on other PCs

Along with running Mac OS X, Windows XP installs without hitch on the Intel-based Mac, just as it would on any other PC, and booted without issue when installed on an NTFS-formatted partition. The only misbehavior sources encountered involved the video card. Initially, Windows refused to budge from an 800x600 setting on a 23-inch Cinema Display. Some prodding managed to get the screen to 1600x1200, but sources were unable to get Windows to take advantage of the entire screen.

Apple alluded to developers at its recent Worldwide Developer Conference that Windows should be able to run on Apple's Intel Macs.

As for installing Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware, attempts to boot from the included Mac OS X for Intel disc resulted in an error message on both a Dell and off-brand PC. The message states that the hardware configuration is not supported by Darwin x86.

Sources have indicated that Apple will employ an EDID chip on the motherboard of Intel-based Macs that Mac OS X will look for and must handshake with first in order to boot. Such an approach, similar to hardware dongles, could theoretically be defeated, although it's unknown what level of sophistication Apple will employ.

Also uncertain is whether the Intel-based development kits seeded to developers already feature the EDID chip or whether the installation disc contains a less sophisticated installation check that simply seeks out one particular hardware configuration--the one given to developers--and will not install on other configurations.

Will Apple Release Their Bootloader?

We can now confirm that for as long as Apple has been developing Mac OS X for Intel, they have also maintained an in-house bootloader for switching between Windows and Mac OS (specifically, an enhanced version of BootX). Current intelligence indicates that Mac OS X for Intel can actually include all the necessary steps during installation from a restore disc to partition, install Mac OS X, and configure the bootloader for Windows or any other x86 installation. All that would be needed after installing the Mac OS is to insert your other OS installation disc and target the FAT32 partition created by the OS X installer.

Of course, we strongly urge Apple to leave this support in Mac OS X when it is released to the public, it would make installing Windows as easy as answering a few questions about partition size, and the inserting your Windows/Linux install disc and completing the installation.

but, no fw800?!?! this is degradable.. more importantly it comes with a magnetic power cord connection! : (

i thought fw800 was unstable.. that's probably why they eliminated it..

too bad.. but the fw800 port should have been the same as fw400.. or vice versa.. (like USB1 vs USB2) otherwise it's yet ANOTHER standard..

The magnetic power cord sounds fascinating - I'd love to see if it actually works!!!
