this happened to me, and maybe some of you aswell?

mIRC exploit exposed **Updated** - [IRC news]
Submitted by Forcefire on 10/13/2003 9:37:45 AM 11 Comments

A report said that versions 6.x and above of the popular mIRC client is subject to crashes through a DCC exploit. The exploit, according to this web page, doesn't affect versions 5.91 or earlier, but the DCC command can be sent by the malicious to any person or channel.
The DCC command is used for swapping files or for chatting.
According to the same page, there will be a fix for mIRC available soon, but in the meantime the workaround is to block all DCC requests completely.

I want to say a huge thanks to all those people who sent me an Email about this matter.

mIRC 6.12 has been released!
mIRC v6.12 has been released to address a remote vulnerability found yesterday, capable of crashing your mIRC. The vulnerability affects versions of mIRC from v6.0 onwards, so it is highly recommended that you upgrade to mIRC v6.12. You can do so by downloading the new mIRC from the mIRC Downloads Page!
